Legacy Projects
What is a legacy project?
A legacy project can be almost anything. A photo album, collage, family tree and ancestry work, recipe books…even a photo shoot! The possibilities are endless. What makes each project unique is your vision and what you want to leave behind, either for your loved ones or the next generation.
Can a legacy project be done WITH my loved ones?
Absolutely! Do you have a bunch of old photos that you need to go through and want help dividing them up or making albums? Legacy work can be an incredible opportunity for patients and their families or friends to make something special together.
In legacy work, my services can vary widely. Maybe you just need a consult, someone to help guide your vision or be your sounding board. Maybe you want someone to do it with you, as a support- I’m here! Maybe you are at a point where you don’t have the capacity- I can do it for you with your vision and wishes as my guide.
The point is, legacy work is deeply personal, and I would be honored to assist in whichever way best fits your needs.
Doula Services
What is an end-of-life doula (or a death doula, as some call it)?
I get asked this question frequently and often compare it to a birth doula, but at the end of life rather than the beginning. Just like a birth doula advocates for a mother to have the birth plan she wants, an end-of-life doula advocates for the terminal patient to have the death plan that they want.
This can be things as big as helping them decide if they want to die at home, what kind of funeral/memorial they want, legacy work, and referring them to a lawyer if needed. It can also be things as small as coordinating a meal train for their loved ones or providing companionship while caregivers run errands. Often, we implement aroma therapy and other holistic techniques for comfort, based on a client’s preferences. We advocate for the client’s wishes when coordinating with their doctors, hospice workers, and other care professionals.
A friend once said she is a “death concierge”, which is fitting and a little funny. The role of an EOL Doula is to make dying as comfortable, personal, and approachable as possible.
